TR4/4A MOPRED Univesal Flares

Hello to all,

I will make a few comments to close this thread. This evening I was successful in getting the brake system operational on the 1966 TR4A.

I did have to use a different new replacement for the 4 way fitting. I could never get the port that went to the right front to seal on the first replacement part. Both are Automec parts.

These are the tricks I used to get the universal flare to seal.
  • Use a little bit of brake fluid to lubricate each joint before you assemble it. Even with that there were some joints when the tube would rotate slightly as the fitting was tightened.
  • The tube needs to be very well centered in the tube fitting so it centers in the mating fitting seat. If you cannot completely seat the tube by turning the fitting by hand you need to work on aligning the tube.
  • Use a backing wrench whenever you can and really tighten the tube nut! I have never had to tightened double flare or bubble flare brake lines as tight as I did these universal flares.

Thanks for all the support from this forum.
