Monza Performance Muffler

Swung by a Harley dealer, no freebies. They sell the stuff they take off on ebay I guess. I'll keep my cheap skate eyes open though, I'd love to put one on but I'm out of money for a while! Craigslist seems to have some deals though, probably $10 or so.

You're about a month or tow early in MI for people to be thinking about getting that bike out of storage. Chat up the service guy, tell them what you are looking for and leave your number for him to call when one comes in. I'll be willing to bet you'll have one within 2-3 weeks. In plenty of time for Spring.

I'm no fan of those big dual tips sticking out the back of an MGB - they just seem out of place & make the rear of the car look "clunky".....why not just go down to your local muffler shop & buy an 18" or so 'cherry bomb' muffler & a nice, classic chrome tip? Lots less money & good sound.

Tony,

That is exactly what a Harley Muffler is. A big,Cherry Bomb that is nicely Chrome Plated. Here's a side view on Bugsy.

From the rear. This is easy to adapt with 2 adapters and some U bolts. A little tack welding to keep all of the adapters together is usually needed as well.

I followed up on Jim's suggestion and found myself a brand new Harley muffler that was replaced with aftermarket pipes. I can't seem to attach photos (I'm getting really frustrated) so here's a link to my new muffler . Thanks Jim!

I removed a monza when I put this on and I can tell you for sure that the Harley pipe is louder overall. It's noticeably louder when accelerating but might be a little quieter when cruising.

If everything in this post works correctly the photo will show up below as well.

I like the single pipe look. My BE has SS exhaust system
with a polished SS muffler. Great deep throaty tone.

Oh bummer. I'd hoped to quiet mine down with a Harley pipe.

Well you at least need a Harley pipe with the baffles still in place. Saw my neighbor out this AM when I went for coffee. He's got a 49 Studebaker Pickup Rust-O-Rod sitting in his driveway and I had to stop and ask questions. We got to talking about Bugsy and Harley Mufflers and he mentioned, oh I've got 3-4 around here that I changed out for folks. The wanted louder pipes. I'll look and see if I can find, I'll give you one, I need to get rid of more junk. Stop by in a few days. These are the type of neighbors you need.

This guy is early 60's, 6'3 maybe and well over 250 lbs. Told me his first car in H.S> was a Spridget. Imagining this huge guy in a Spridget is interesting. I'll offer to take him for a ride but I don't think he can fit into the car.

P.S> Now if I can finda way to get a ride in his Henry J Gasser...

I assumed theleisure's pipe was still baffled, as he said it was brand new. True?

Yes, I reread his post and it appears his solution has baffles still in place. Baffles is sort of an oxymoron with a Harley Miuffler anyway. I appears to be some sort of metal screen that P.O. simply used a long screwdriver to pole holes in and drive out. On the stock muffler you can see straight through . Not really much there to begin with.

Hmmm, I want quieter, she's kinda obnoxious at the moment (the Midget that is.....), out of character for a rather sedate, easy going roadster, IMHO. If I scare up a Harley pipe for free I might try it but otherwise I'll aim for something that will tone it down a bit more.

Here you go, media files for the Monza muffler and Harley muffler.

Cool, thanks for that. They both sound good.

I have to say I like the sound of the Monza better. The Harley muffler does sound good though.

What do you run on yours Bryan? I like the sound of the Monza it's just a tad loud (when accelerating) and it looks a little "much" (of course mine sticks out too far and low).

So what I'm thinkin is get about 15 min of each media file, an ipod, a couple of speakers and, Bob's your uncle - depending on your mood, whether you are in the neighbourhood or not/ wife present or not etc. you can dial in the sound :yesnod:

Yea, and then you get a ticket in a school zone because your loop is playing a full throttle acceleration through the gears while you're putting along at 15 past a cop. :cryin:
