Monday Fun

Hello,

I have been away all week; otherwise I would have made this post Monday night.
JP and Mark made the trek out to my house Monday afternoon. The rendezvous was to help me source my vibration problem, as has been discussed in my other post. JP arrived and handed me his midget keys, off I went on a drive to get a bench mark of what a very nice midget drives like. Wow JP’s midget is very smooth it is a beautiful car to drive, very different from my 66 Sprite. With Marks help we swapped wheels and the vibration was worse. After much debate and looking we found one of my Peter C rebuilt front shocks to be bone dry. We filled it with oil but it still is not working properly. Peter C said no problem he will send me a new one. So at the moment it looks like most of my vibration is maybe normal and needs to be dampened. I have a used shock that I will try this weekend. We had a great social time and I really appreciate what JP and Mark did. It was a long drive for them. Look forward to meeting somewhere for lunch, will probably be in the spring as winter is so close.
Thanks guys
Phil

Changed the shock, stopped the shake, still some vibration, but not to bad. Still need to check the half shafts

I think you might have to live with some vibration - that car is a rocket powered roller skate

Hey I like that description JP, my Sprite has always been nameless, not sure why. We have debated names for years nothing seemed appropriate it was easier naming my kids.
That new mini copper s is fun but requires more mtc, then my LBC, his name is Max. When you mix German engineering and British engineering you end up with a car that is really fun but a royal pain to maintain. But Max is staying, great driver
Cheers Phil

Vibration update.

I again spent numerous hours looking for my vibration source. Today I had my dial indicator clamped to a short ladder. I dial indicated each hub, and then the wheel rim, as well as the rubber. I moved each wheel around on the hub and then torqued the lug nuts. I did this many times to each wheel until I found the best spot. When I started the run out was between 60 thou to 10 hou.
I have now less then 10 thou on 3 wheels and one back wheel is 25 thou. Took her for a drive, still vibration but better. I wonder if the difference between superlite wheels and minilite wheels is the way they centre. Or maybe my hubs are just worn out.
