Modern Radios

I wanted to see what radios you guys have installed in the center console. I want to fit one before I install the rest of the interior. One issue I can see is going to be size, especially depth. I want a unit that I can listen to CDs, or better yet has an AUX jack where I can plug in my iPod.

I went with a $99 Sony that came with free installation. Depth was an issue, so they used some 1/2" spacers to bring the console out a touch.
It doesn't look any different, but you just can't change CDs when in 1st or 3rd, not that you'd want to.
Came with a built in Aux jack.

Same for me, basic Sony CD Player. Depth was an issue but simply space out at the bottom. It's tight but longer screws, a little bit of up angle. Again 2 & 4th to change CD's. Beach Boy's Greatest Hits sounds pretty cool cranked up going down the street top down and volume up. That and a little bit of Ronny and the Daytona's. Just fine for a quick trip to the grocery store.

I just got a plain, low power cassette am/fm to fit the console. I got a 6 disc cd changer in the trunk. Tune the radio to 89.1 and it comes in. I got a small amp in the trunk as well.

I use my IPOD NANO Or my samsung blackjack 2 phone, With powered Boise computer speakers.
Output from the power transformer on the wall plug is 12 volt cut it off and attached it to a fuse termianl

I put in the VR3, I believe it's 240 watts x 4 channels. It plays from memory cards, thumb drives, and of course cd's. I always have just used an SD memory card. It doesn't like the newer SDHC cards, even in an adapter. That's OK though, I have plenty of the older style SD cards and 1 GB holds a lot of mp3 or wma songs.
I had to pull the console out a half to 3/4 inch too.

I put Sony Xplod 6x9's in the rear and Alpine 6.5's up front.
One is mounted in the bottom of the glove box pointing down and the other in a scoshe box on the left side under the dash. I have no need for an amp - the car Rocks when I crank up the volume.

I just installed an amp and two speakers on the backboard behind the seats. (1966 Sprite). I then ran a RC jack under the carpet and plug in my ipod, it works great and the car IMO looks better without a modern radio. It also allows me to take the tiny ipod with me when I park my sprite at the store, one less thing for someone to steal. I would like front speakers just need to figure out where I can hide them.
