I need to replace my very old (ancient) RCA modem. Currently I have been paying a monthly fee from my isp (Comcast), but would like to just buy one.
Which brand/model number do you recommend that is compatible with Comcast?
These two were listed on the Comcast site as being compatible:
ArrisTM722G or MotorolaSB6121
Any recommendations?

From the links you provide, I don't think the Arris is a cable modem. I have the Motorola, and it works fine. It's DOCSIS 3, and you should be able to get faster speeds with it than with your old modem.
 
Elliot, Don't know if it's compatible with Comcast but, I like the Cisco wireless. Had one for 10 years and had no problems with it. PJ

 
I'd go at least 56k, they are so much faster than a 14.4 our even a 28.8 modem.
 
No Walter, ISDN is the hot ticket. 64k but you can gang two together for an earth shattering 128k. You can almost stream still photos with that kinda bandwidth.
 
Walt, Greg, ya can SPLIT th' price of a replacement keyboard for me.

I'm finished hijacking now. I have an older Arris than what you mentioned that I've been using for about four years with Time Warner. On occasion I do have to reset it but it has lasted a good while. Hard to know where the reset issue came from, it may not have been the modems fault. Looking at the Amazon reviews, there is a mostly positive feedback for the TM722. It looks like there will be some activation process with Comcast to switch modem MAC addresses, if you bundle phone with comcast, you'll need to call them on a cell phone because your cable phone will be dead.
 
No problem having a little fun Greg... didn't mind at all.
I looked at the Aris TM722 but the description describes it as a "telephony modem" and since I don't have a cable phone I decided to order the Motorola SB6121 DOCSIS 3.0 Modem.
I think anyone of them would probably have been fine. I did read on some comcast boards that they don't make it too easy for you to activate since they would rather you keep renting.
