Models that can seat 3 (2 - 1/2) People

Hi All,

Great forum here! Ill be in the market for a weekend cruiser in a few months. As much as Id love to get a midget. My life needs a second car that has a back seat and can seat 2 adults and a child.

As far as i can gather the following 3 do have a back seat:
-TR3
-Austin Healey 3000
-MGB GT

Not sure if my budget can afford a reliably running TR3 let alone a 3000.

Ive been mislead by a few rear platforms in photos. So though id reach out.

Note: Most likely i would remove the original seat, if it actually still has it, and save it. Build a steel frame with a children's racing seat and 5 point harness. And bolt or weld it to the middle of the rear seating area. But the car has to legally have had a seat in the space for me to get away with this. The rear MGB GT seats aren't too bad. But safety first.

Any other models that have a rear seat i could consider purchasing?

Thanks!

All those great black and white "the kids can ride too" adds from the 60s. Really got me going down a rabbit hole. Haha.

But I've sat in the back of a GT that had converted the bench to low-back buckets with 4point harnesses. They had done some modifying to the chassis underneath. But its where my thinking came from. It basically felt the same as the back of a mini. Just with a lower roof line.

Sadly the mini route is so costly. I'd probably lean in a differnt direct for my weekend ride.

Welcome! If you are looking for a convertible, and a back seat, consider a Stag or a Morris Minor - the Stag in particular is relatively undervalued.

keep us posted!

:iagree: Regarding the Stag. No modifications needed because there is a back seat. The comfort will be much better than your other choices.

I'd love a GT or GT6($$). Convertible definitely not a requirement. But the back seat mod would be rather extensive.

I had not considered a Stag! The styling is a tad bit more modern than i was shooting for. And they have gone up a bit in price since the Zimbabwe episode. But beggers cant be chooser in the hunt for a functional back seat.

Thanks for the suggestions!

you can buy a lot of classic Jag or even Bentley for your implied budget

Love the Jags and Bentley's. But they are a bit big for what im shooting for. The size of english roadster is really appealing.

Ive been hunting for a 3000. But it seems like rolling shells push 6 - 8k. If i could find one just road worthy for that price id jump on it.

In the end id like to be able to do some local classic rallys. Which do occasionally have some gravel roads. Id like to not have the paranoia of driving a large investment.
