Model Builders Out There

As a young teen (early and mid-60's), one of my hobbies was model building. Spent virtually all of my lawn-mowing money on them. Now I'm looking to build models of some of the cars I've owned, and others that I've always liked. Back in the day, 1/24th scale was the way to go, and I still like that size over the others.

I have been looking for 1/24th scale models of the MGB GT for quite a while, and they just don't seem to be out there. There are plenty of Tourer models available, but I've never been able to find the GT in that scale. Finally scored one on ebay, but it was just a separate body packaged by the seller with a model of the Tourer. I have no idea where the GT body came from, but it does line up perfectly with the rest of the Tourer model (from Aoshima).

Now I'm wondering if there's enough interest to have a mold made from this body, and if so, whether it's worth it and how to go about doing that.

Any suggestions? (Other than getting a life!)

Is the body a light brown ,light blue, or a yellowish color, and a tad bit thicker than the tourer body? If so it is likely a resin cast body. A practice that is becoming more and more common. Someone will make a nice custom model of something unusual like the GT body, and then they will make the mold and cast their own parts with epoxy resin.
You can buy the supplies at any good hobby store to make both the molds and resin parts. It'd probably take about $50-100 to get started, but you can make several replicas from each mold.
Lots of neat stuff to be found out there with that process.

Yes, put me down for at least one. I have one unbuilt roadster in stock already.I would love to build my long departed GT. Guess I don't check ebay often enough....

Yep - pale yellow to cream color. Very nicely done, and it fits the Aoshima Tourer kit very well.

Not sure I want to "go into business" with this. Just curious as to the demand, and wondering how many are out there.

Just as an aside, I never built cars, just model soldiers and the KMS Bismarck.

I'm fairly certain that this is the All-American resin MGB/GT that was available in the early 90's.

Here's mine, purchased through the mail from All-American in West LaFayette, IN., pictured with one of the Aoshima MGBs (also out of production).

The Aoshima MGBs (there are four versions) show up on EvilBay on a regular basis..selling price is usually USD $45 to $50 per kit.

Speaking of models... I'm looking for an HO scale EMD SD80MAC made by Kato if anybody happens to run across one. Going to need another project to work on once my model of my Impala PPV is done. Thanks!
