Mocal 1500 oil cooler adapter part number?

No, but just for the record, I'm not sure you need an oil cooler. Mine's never had one and the oil seems to stay pretty cool (I had a temp probe in it for a while). The 1500 uses an efficient cross-flow coolant radiator...this indirectly keeps the oil temp down, I think.
I heard about folks who have to cover the oil cooler with duct tape to bring temps up in these things!
(and just fyi....I use a blanking plate made from an old thermoststat with the guts removed)

I've noticed I can get my idle oil pressure to drop down pretty low if I run her at high speed for a few miles. Temp gauge isn't that high, but that oil sure does seem to thin out.

I figure it's cheap insurance, and the mocal adapters have built in 180-degree t-stats, so no worries about overcooling.

I'm probably just being paranoid but it would give me peace of mind /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Okay, thanks to napaonline.com, it looks like it's a 3/4"x16TPI thread-on fitting for the oil filter.

This means that SP1T from RPW will work. ($79.99) I'm inclined to get the 16 row cooler (MOC - 16210 for $132.05)

By the time I get the hoses, it's going to cost me a a bit more than the moss kit, but I don't think theirs is thermostatically regulated...

I was hoping I could do this a little cheaper. I might have to wait a little bit on this one...

I'd been having serious trouble (prior to the oil cooler installation) of keeping the oil pressure above ten pounds or so hot (pre engine rebuild). The water temperature tended to rise as well, a bit, but not enough to justify the drop in oil pressure from 40-50 cold to 7-10 (idle) hot. With cooler, after a few autocross runs on a hot day, the pressure stays above 20 at idle, even in 100 degree weather. If I drive it a bit (keeping some air across the cooler) it stays at 30-40 at idle, depending on the air temps.

Also, Rob, as to your question ... I have a 13 row oil cooler that uses BSP fittings. DON'T USE THEM! They're next to impossible to find hose ends for, and you'll get taken to the cleaners when you do find them. Use standard (reuseable) AN fittings (earl's or aeroquip type) and make sure you get an adapter that uses AN fittings as well. Use the expensive (I'm forgetting the name right now) stainless braid hose from earls or aeroquip to go with it, as it's grossly overrated for this application. Using this stuff in a project of mine with compressed air, I managed to assemble some 9 different hoses from braid hose and earls AN-6 fittings, using only the directions provided and minimal tools (a vise, a 7/8" and a 3/4" wrench, some duct tape, a fine toothed hacksaw, and some motor oil), and had zero leak issues at 100+ psi!

I originally purchased the Moss kit for a spitfire and can verify two things. One, it doesn't have a thermostat, and two, one hose is grossly too long, while the other is ridiculously too short for any possible mounting in a midget. They use aeroquip's non-reuseable fittings and the hoses are nice, but they're simply the wrong lengths for a 1500 midget. If I'm reading this correctly (although I haven't yet reviewed the racerpartswholesale website) SP1T is your oil filter adapter? Does it have a thermostat included? I'm inclined to retrofit this package to my car to replace the original style 13 row cooler and sandwich fitting for the oil cooler.

yea, check the mocal page on RPW, the SP1T is the oil filter adapter. It has 1/2" NPT fittings and a 180-degree t-stat built in. The mocal cooler I want is 16 row with 10-AN fittings.

I can get the AN/NPT hoses assembled at NAPA for a very reasonable cost. I'll probably go that route once I know precise measurements.

Rob, the 16 row cooler may be overkill for the 1500. I raced the Spit for years with a 13 row, and never saw oil temps above 225. But, I ran an 11 quart capacity system.
