MkI Midget Carb Linkage Question

All three springs attach as shown in that "same picture" above. The two shorter springs attach between the throttle shaft at each carb and the holes in the heat shield. The longer single spring is hooked between the throttle cable fulcrum and heat shield. When tuning the carbs independently, each throttle shaft is sprung by its own spring allowing each throttle plate to be adjusted. When the throttle cable is re-clamped, all three springs act as the throttle return springs. Does that clarify things?...or even make sense?

So, are there any choke springs? Apparently not....

Sure there are, look on the bellcrank on the carb body for the choke, and you'll see the hole to hook the spring on. I run one on each side this is something you want secured, as it holds the jet up during normal driving, if the jet starts to drop you gong to be way rich
Guys it's retty stright forward, never even thought of looking at Moss' cartoons to help out on this. If you look at this, it's pretty obvious how HS2 choke works and what you want it to do and not do.

So, I'm looking in my little blue book, S.U. Carburetter Manual: Function, Servicing, Testing and Repairs printed in 1972 in the UK....it shows 3 springs on the rear throttle shaft (the one with the throttle disc, i.e., "butterfly") & none on the front shaft.

I understand what Mike is saying & agree with its premise...& every photo or Midget I see has all 3 springs on the rear shaft....using Moss #'s: 1 #370-320 & 2 #370-335.

I'm also with Hap on this one because it just makes sense....but I can't find anywhere that shows the springs for the front shaft (even though Moss calls #370-335 the choke spring & says 2 are required)...

...if so, that means I need a total of 5 springs?

Bye-the-bye, my MGB's are set up like Hap says but with 4 springs!

#2 in the picture is the choke return spring. On on each carb for a total of 2. The long springs in the second picture are the throttle return springs, one for each carb and a third for the common throttle shaft. So yes there are 5 total but only 3 long ones that got to the heat shield.

27 is a throttle spring. There are two of one size and a third one is a different size.

Just had David Maples stop by & he agrees with Hap - need a couple of springs on the Choke to keep the jets seated solidly.....& he says 3 springs on the throttle makes for a hard accelerator pedal!
