On our new Mk2, the lower steering column appears to be too
short.
It doesn't look too safe since the detent that the pinch
bolt is supposed to ride in is 1/2 inch above the pinch bolt.
At the upper end, the splines are showing on the upper
steering column, as well as the detent that the pinch bolt
is supposed to ride in.
The PO had switched from power steering to manual steering,
so it appears that the wrong lower column is being used.
It measures about 16'', and needs about 1/2 inch more in
length.
The column I now have has the nylon rollers in it; I understand that the manual column used the rubber flex joint.
Any extra columns out there?
