Okay.
I asked on ANOTHER Jag-specific forum, got zero responses, so try it here.

I have developed a sector shaft seal leak on my 64 MK2, RHD.

I have the J.33 Factory parts manual, and the Factory service manual, as well as some spurious manuals.

The Factory Manual covers replacing the seal ONLY in the overhaul section, right after removing the sector shaft out the top of the box.

There is an "O" ring and retaining washer, no snap ring listed, and the drawings do not show if the "o" ring is fit into a recess in the box housing and then you drop the shaft in.
In that case, why a washer to retain it......

I have the new "O" ring, and am planning the time necessary to do the work.

Anybody ever done a seal replacement in the car on a manual MK2 box?

Thanks.

Dave

Well, seems from laying on my back underneath the car, after extracting the pittman arm, that the washer and "O" ring do NOT come out the bottom.

The washer is inside the box.
Looks like it is dropped in from the top before you press the sector bushings in place.
The "O" ring fits into the void.
I ain't gonna pull the box to find out exactly.

I have a "spare" box on a parts car. It will be a little while before I finish stripping it though. I have to pull the engine/trans for a 4 speed conversion, but I will not need a RHD manual box. If you have any interest, let me know, and I will put your name on it.

Yes.
ALWAYS looking for spares.

Just in case.

Thanks.
Dave
