My MK2 has a cap on top with a small vent hole, similar (but
smaller than) those on the wheel bearings.
My J.33 parts manual shows a tower with a grease fitting.
When did they change idler assemblies, is mine older or newer than 1964, or is there a top piece that fints on in place of the cap to allow regular greasing?
Thanks.
Dave

Don't think I ever saw one without a grease fitting.

Well, if my wife didn't have my camera, I'd post a picture. Puzzled, I yam.

Understood!

Any evidence there WAS a fitting in the hole?

No...the cover is stamped light steel, looks just like the dust covers that fit over the spindle nut on the front wheel hubs, just smaller.

MY 250 V8 should be the same as MK11's what year is your MK??

Up scale of course :laugh: but it has a small 1/4" plug that is removable for refilling with oil;

64. You know the dust caps over the outer wheel bearings in the front wheels, with the vent hole in the centre for when you use the grease fitting?
Same cap,just a tad smaller OD. Pull it off the same way you pull the hub dust caps off. My idler assembly has roller brearings, not bushings. I am guseeing it's an upgrade somewhere along the car's life.
