Mk10 toolkit ... help

I've got my dad's ols Mk10 toolkit that I'm trying to make complete again. I've got most of the tools but ...... can anybody tell me what tools should go into the space that holds the box spanner? Obviosly the box spanner goes in there but there's space at both ends for other tools. One I assume is a screwdriver but I don't know what type and I have no idea what goes at the other.
Also, what are the sizes of the open ended spanners that should be in there?
 
geeezzz, you need to check eBay, I've seen replacements there. it's hard to say what went where in a MK-X's toolkit. In my 1965 S type toolkit, there are 4 spanners, from 9 thru 17 mm, a Stalagamite Grease tool, (something like that), Spark plug tools, A spare Champion Spark Plug (as if 1 Plug would make any difference), Cam adjusting tool, screwdrivers, a can of I don't know what, but it has a rubber hose inside. Another can of I don't know what, a 'tommy' bar, light bulbs, fuses, all mounted in wood covered with a velvet-like material where each item fits. I don't use any of those tools, they are there for show only. When I need tools I go to my tool box. What I would like is some kind of tool to remove the wire wheel knockoffs without having to hammer them loose. everytime a wheel has to come off, more damage is done to the chrome on the knock-offs. Very sad but what the "L".
 
There are four spanners: 3/4 X 7/8 A.F. 9/16 X 5/8 A.F. 7/16 X 1/2 A.F. 11/32 X 3/8 A.F. Typically missing are the pliers , screwdriver and tyre gauge.

I know I've seen a tool somewhere in the dim and distant past that fits over the "Knock off" and you hit THAT with a hammer instead of hitting the chrome.

BTW ... I still don't know what sort of screwdriver I need for the Mk10 toolkit... any ideas?
 
Some years ago I bought a long metal lever from Moss Motors that fit over the knock off and you pulled on the lever arm, the metal against the knock off chipped the chrome and gouged the knock off itself--disaster so be careful when buying such a device

I looked in the 3.8 MKX tool kit that I have and the screwdriver is a yellow handle #3 flat that says Made in England but I don't see anything else. It fits in the spark plug spanner slot. It looks like the replacement screwdriver that I ordered along with all of the leftover NOS original tools at the Jacksonville JRT parts depot when it closed. Along with it is a special screwdriver for electric windows (looks like a baby engine crank handle) even though this car had window cranks.

Hi Exotexs, there are two methods you can use to avoid damagimg the chrome on the knocks. There is a "soft"lead hammer available from Moss and others that will not damage the chrome.They are somewhere in the $25 ish price range. The other method is the one you remember seeing which is a wooden tool that you strike with a hammer after mounting it on the knock off.Personaly I do not like them. Another type similar to the wooden one is a folding metal tool.This tool is more like a lever and is not struck- not safe around chrome. Most of them can be purchased through the usual suspects.But IMOP nothing beats the soft lead hammer--Fwiw--Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

What is a 4lb. k/o Zinc hammer? yes I could get the lead hammer from Moss, or the wooden "mold" tool, but that wood piece will get damaged or break for sure, or slip off the knocks. Then the large metal "Lever" might scratch the body if it slips. The theory is good, but I'm not sure about it, I would have to see it in action.

back to the Tool Kit: the original tool kit in my '65 S type has a black plastic screwdriver Handle that says "Jaguar" in the old style logo, and two metal screwdriver bits, one Phillips, one Blade. the plastic handle desintegrated into pieces. I tried gluing it back, but the plastic seems to have a "lubricant" in the composition that prevents any glue from drying or adhering. very weird. I tried super glue, epoxy, gorilla glue, and nothing works. I just "encapsulated" it in a vinyl cap to save it. All the tools say "Jaguar" on them, including the pliers. Attached is a picture of the "Stalagmite" Grease Gun (injector) LABEL that was wrapped around the tool itself.

Soft lead works very well.
Also the plastic faced dead-blow hammer from snap-on or mac.
Putzkes sells the dead blow.
 
The very helpful gentleman at the Cook Hammer Company seemed concerned to the point of being insulted that Moss would list his 4lb hammers as zinc instead of lead. He said that he would call them as soon as he got off the phone with me.

My S-Type tool kit also has the dual-use screwdriver. Fortunately nobody has ever tried to use it. I remember my early MKII kit as having a flat blade only.
