MK1 air valve

I can't quite figure out how to reassemble the air control "valve" on the heater box duct work. I shoulda taken a picture, didn't think it was necessary but where things go in relation to each other is escaping me.
 
Is this the little metal tube with a flapper on the passenger side of the heater box?

Yes, and I'm embarrassed to ask. It's just a clamp, the flapper and the pivot/cable anchor. Pull the cable flap opens, push the cable flap closes but I can't seem to get the parts lined up again. Which way does the cable anchor (the end of flapper pivot) face? It seems if I put where logic dictates, and line up the holes in that pivot rod with the flapper's holes I only get like 1/4" of travel out of it.

I just need a picture showing the bottom area of the tube where the cable attaches and I should be able to go from there.

Note to self: mark things, take pictures, something, no matter how simple it looks....
 
Make sure your cable is not hung up and provides enough travel to move freely. Also make sure the flapper can be opened and closed manually without being connected to the cable. Clamp to the cable needs t obe real tight. I found out on Bugsy that part of the time clamp was slipping on the cable and not allowing full movement to open and shut the flapper. There is a lot of friction in the cable.
 
I'm having trouble getting the flapper/pivot arm lined up with the clamp. I'll keep trolling for a picture.

Before I took it apart I could pull the flapper from closed to open and back to closed again as I kept pulling the cable out. Confused me for a bit why I was getting more air at the half way point. Can't help but wonder if it isn't supposed to run out of travel at the fully open position. That's what I'm going for anyway.
 
Isn't the '63 (yours) like the '64/'65 where you pull the knob to shut the air of and push to open the air valve (and also then be able to turn the fan "on")?

I'm not sure. My switches and dash are "custom". I have a normal cable pull for this flapper, separate switch for the blower motor.
It's all back together and seems to work fine.
I'm almost "done"!!!

My problem with the flapper and cam/pivot was ultimately getting the flapper right side up. Then holes lined up between flapper and cam and all was well.
