Hello everyone! Looking for information/photos relating to the four alloy bodied Mk.2 Sprite driven in the 3 hour event at Sebring FL in 1962. Drivers included: Stirling Moss, Pedro Rodriguez, Innes Ireland and movie star Steve McQueen.

Welcome.

Please let us know of your interest in these cars (do you own one?). There are a number of replicas of these cars around...more than real ones, I'd guess.
Much of the development on these cars was done by John Sprinzel.
Anyway, here's some info that may help:

..and there are several pages of unusual Sprite (including possibly some Sebrings) on the five page thread that starts here:

Hi aeronca65t,

Thanks for the response to my request for information. I'm currently restoring a 'works' modified Mk.2 Sprite, registered 9256 WD. This was registered by the Donald Healey Motor Co. in a batch of ten consecutive cars (9251 WD - 9260 WD) early 1962. The first four cars were fitted with alloy panelling and were of standard Mk. 2 shape (square-bodied). Only one of these alloy bodied cars is known to have survived - the Pedro Rodriguez driven car, 9253 WD - in remarkably original condition. Three of the four cars returned to the UK following the '62 event at Sebring FL, but the Steve McQueen driven car - 9251 WD - was sold to BMC California and subsequently disappeared. Unless somebody out there knows any different?!!! Looking for anyone who may have been present at the '62 Sebring event and may have photos.

Many thanks,

spritesrus.

Hi Everyone,

Thought you might like to see the late great Steve McQueen ploughing through the rain during the '62 3 hour event at Sebring. 9251 WD was sold to BMC San Francisco, California following the race. If anyone knows what happened to it from then on, I'd love to hear!

Regards,

'spritesrus'
