Okay! I need any and all comments, advice, sugestions, directions, referals, linls, vendors, experts, nay-sayers, cheerleaders, and kabitzers to chime in on the least expensive, most rewarding, safest. most logical way, method, path, strategy in converting a Mk 2 from disk to wire. (Yes, I've seen the aricle on Jag-Lovers Forum about the guy's Mk 1.) Please say it all guys, I really LIKE wires and really dislike disks. I'm not racing, only driving, Thanks in advance. Sock it to me.

Sorry I can't provide any ideas as to how or from where, just that wires are the way to go.. They just scream classic british iron..

There are a few specialists in the UK that sell conversion kits, but that is probably not much use to you. However, I own (for about 20years) and am beginning to restore my 1962 MK2, and I am keeping it on its disc wheels. I owned another car which came as standard on wire wheels and they are a pain, in practice, unless you are a martyr to cleaning.
If you are determined I would suggest that you get new wheels and hubs, unless you can be sure that the used ones are in very good order. Splines wear and spokes come loose with use, especially if the car has been driven hard.
Chrome wire wheels are normal these days but painted was the more usual option I believe and that is a nice way to stand out from the crowd. Also I am informed that chromed wheels are weaker than painted, due to the electrolytic process, but some modern ones now have stainless steel spokes so I assume that they are just as strong.

I'd check with XKS Unlimited first. I converted my XK120 (which I no longer have

) from disk to wires and it wasn't all that difficult as I recall. I suspect XKs unlim would have all the necessary parts for a conversion. Also, Dayton Wire Wheels sells Stainless Steel wires which look as nice as chrome, but won't rust like chrome.
