MGB Mixture control really stiff

I reassembled my front panel, and installed a brand new mixture control cable (I only had pieces of an old one). It moves in and out super easy when not connected (I can even push the bare cable end in at the engine compartment end and it pushes the pull handle out on the panel). The mixture linkage on the carbs moves freely by hand, but when I connect the cable to the carb linkage I pretty much need both hands to pull on the handle (and I'm not THAT much of a weakling). I've had 3 of these cars in the past and never experienced this. I'm about to try pulling the entire cable out of the housing and soaking it in oil for a day, then sliding it back in.
 
By mixture control do you mean choke cable?

If it slides in the cable sheath and the linkage moves freely - does it have a clear angle when it it is being pulled on? I know I am being captain obvious here but are you 'loosening' the cable in the cockpit (turn left pull and turn right to snug?)

I wouldn't soak it in oil as it might bind worse if it absorbs dust and grit over time
 
Yes I have it unlocked (and with the engine compartment end free it moves real easily) - the angle between the cable end and the linkage seem to be a clean exit. It has to make some curves in behind the instrument panel to reach the outlet thru the firewall (and there is only 1 place that it can go) but its not kinked back there.
 
It may be worth pulling it out of the housing to see if there is a kink in the cable or if it is binding. I might use a dry lube (graphite?) though
