Missing pieces- centershift 3000- vague shifting

Although the gearbox on my 3000 seems smooth and quiet, the shifter has seemed rather vague. So I finally had the gumption to snoop around, lifted up the rubber boot and to my surprise here is what I found:



According to the parts diagram, the circlip, washer, and big spring are all missing. Moss doesn't stock the washer, part #100. Does anybody know where it might be available, or can somebody measure one so I can find a duplicate?

Buy the spring, the circlip and washer can be bought locally. You'll have to measure the inside diameter of the top of the transmission to get the right size.

Somebody like Healey Surgeons should be able to supply a used washer. The primary trouble with trying to find one locally, is that any "standard" washer of that diameter will be too thick for the circlip to seat properly.

Before you order parts, better make sure that there's a nylon bushing on the bottom of the shift lever too. No telling what else has been left out...

... a couple of xmsn jobs back, I was brought a side-shift trans that was "rebuilt" (my a$$!). Among other things, some of the major parts that were left out, were half the gaskets (even the installed ones were done incorrectly and leaking), all the springs in the overdrive, the overdrive pump eccentric cam, and a myriad of small parts. The owner was charged a fair price for some clown to louse up his property; easy to see why mechanics have such a bad reputation...

HI Jeff, I see one more thing that is missing in your piture, That is a good coat of lubricant on the ball. I prefer aproduct called Coppa-Slip but agood grade ofgrease will do too.--Fwiw--Keoke
