Misfiring / Compression Issue?

Hello Everyone -

My BJ8 has been running very well. The other day, I heard a short "puttering" sound coming from the engine / exhaust as I was driving back from my outing.

When I took the car out yesterday, the problem was much worse. There was now a continuous "puttering" sound, which sounded like a go-cart engine. Also, acceleration was very compromised.

The engine had a complete restoration 1.5 years ago and I've haven't had this issue before. The head gasket was replaced 6 months ago.

Can anyone provide me some useful advice for this problem?

I doubt it's a compression issue and would go after the usual suspects....ignition and fuel delivery and vacuum leaks. I never had symptoms as you described with low or mismatched compression.

Sounds like a fouled plug, remove& check for a wet plug. NGK's-BP6ES, work great & don't foul as easy as Bosch or Champion. cheers Genos2
 
Not sure what to say about the 'puttering;' but the compromised acceleration could be caused by a carburettor needle that has slipped out of its seat in the vacuum piston. At least, it's an easy thing to check. Happened to me.
