Mirror Mirror on the car

I actually removed the curved mirror and replaced it with a flat one. It was far less confusing about where things were cause I couldn't see the road. It is great in conjunction with the curved right side mirror. They are cheap and you should experiment with what works best for you. Most seem to have too much curve for me.
 
I replaced the stock mirror stem with a taller version. It looks identical to the stock stem. Other options are mirror blocks, made of aluminum you place under the stock mirror stem to raise it, or have a second suction cup mirror like TH uses.

I can't visualize where that mirror is supposed to go or how it attaches. Can you explain?
 
Here's a photo. You can clamp it anywhere on the glass. There are two set screws that press against the stainless steel plate, which in turn presses against the glass.
 
Interesting. It looks like it would be a bit close to your face. Does it stay put? Is there some rubber or something between the glass and the plate?
 
Well Roger other than being UG-LY it seems like a lot of mass to be hanging " on the glass "--Keoke-- :frown:
 
keoke, over the years ive used every type,placement/location of these mirrors. they all work but i think placement is more important then the style mirror used, i like the mirror to be situated so i will not have to divert my line of vision from the direction im traveling. such as on top and over the center of the front fender wheel arch. :yesnod:

I don't know where that photo came from but wanted to show how the mirror gets attached. Has anyone noticed the seat?

One of the threads has now stripped so I am working on a solution for one more attempt. I must say I found it usefull when it was there.

The one AH Spares sells which looks like the photo I posted, clamps to the vent glass, not the frame. It comes with a thin mounting plate and thin rubber.

Yep just rotate the mirror 180 Degrees will do it---Keoke--- :driving:

Thanks, Keoke. That was what I was afraid of. I have a pair of fender mounted mirrors, but I can't bring myself to drill holes in my nice new body and paint.
 
Well Bill try the Ski boat mirror by Atwood Corp no holes required it clamps to the top of the windscreen and works pretty good top up and is excellent top down. The dash mirror Roger showed seem to be a good alternative also.--Fwiw--Keoke

I'm not sure what a mirror "dot" is, but I use small convex mirrors mounted to the inside of the windscreen with rubber suction cups. They are quite effective and really add to a sense of confidence that you know what is going on around you.
 
Healey Z, I've had mirrors mounted on the doors and liked the view, however, every time you close the door it knocks it out of alignment and required retightening, eventually will crack the door paint. I mounted my original Lucas style mirrors approximately 10"-12" from the rear of each front fender. You can then reach up from below the fenders for tightening, so far I haven't had to do this though.
