Bought my first tap and die set today (good Craftsman set, SAE sizes) and cleaned up the 1 remaining captive nut and the screw that I messed up while trying the nut in the first place. Very cool new tools, I can see all sorts of possible future uses.

Used a small magnet to hold a nut and washer in place for the other side, and got everything attached. Almost anti-climatic after all that effort removing the dash and gauges. Next up is to decide if I'm going to make a new dash right away, or just put the old one back on.

Ahh, a mirror.
for me it's ahh, a mirror and a tap and die set ... T&D sets are almost a staple tool in this hobby ... and always buy a good set .. congrats drew

Tap and die set is very cool, did exactly what it was supposed to do. I probably won't be cutting new holes in things, but being able to clean up threads on nuts and bolts is very handy.

Hi Drew,
I noticed you are using the same mirror I have. Mine hits the windshield when properly adjusted on my '63'. Did you have that problem?

Walter

I do have that problem, Walter. Haven't figured out what I'll do to solve it yet. Mostly, I just duck my head a bit to look out the mirror...

Mine wants to touch the windshield too. And it vibrates a lot.

Where'd you guys get yours? mine is installed on my car &, sitting in the driver seat, I can adjust it properly.

Mine looks like it's mounted where yours is but the upper left corner just touches the shield when set right. It's usable but it vibrates a lot. Hopefully after extensive tinkering this winter, she'll run so smooth, the mirror issue will be gone...maybe.

Well it appears Tony has the correct mirror. After looking at as many pictures as I could it seems some of us have the wrong ones. I turned mine upside down but I don't know how effective it will be. The holes were slightly too far apart also. There are some for sale on ebay, I may indulge.

I'll have to check, Tony, but I'm pretty sure it was a Moss item I got through you some time ago. I'll scrounge up the part number when I get home after work today. Now I'm curious...

Edit:

I got it through Victoria British on my own (not through Tony), part number 15-354. In that catalog there is a 15-355 OE style mirror (black back, not the metal back) that looks like the one one Tony's Midget -- that's probably the proper one.

Drew, you have a generic replacement unit. I have one like it. I prefer it because it is larger. Mine is close to the windshield, but it does not touch.

That looks like the one I have too. PO probably put it on. It's usable but just barely, arm should angle away from the shield a tad and it'd be perfect.

Sure doesn't look much different from the black one but half the price, no wonder so many of us have them.

The mirror on the left is off of ebay for $13.99 (Cobra/Sprite mirror) and the mirror on the left was ordered from Victoria British Part # 15-354 for $22.95.

Both are incorrect! Look at mine...the correct one should have black crinkle finish with a black edge that holds the mirror in....I got mine from Moss.

It's now on my list for my next Tony order -- that should be the odds-n-ends order once the car is almost ready this Spring.
