As we all know our little cars are covered with so much factory undercoat gunk that it leaves you scratching your head why so many of them have become piles of rust. For those of us in the restoration process removing the gunk is almost an impossible feat. Well I found a wonderful product by accident. I have been hand striping my 65 for the last 2 years with a product called Tal Strip by Mar-Hyde. This is an industrial strength striper and yes it does remove the paint, no sand blasting needed. I had a few parts with tons of gunk that I was ignoring, had tried heat and solvent but what a lot of work.

This evening I applied the Tal Strip, simply unbelievable results. I put it on with a paint brush let it set for a little bit then swirled the area with the brush a little, wiped it clean with a rag and cold water. Most of it was removed with the first effort, and I'm talking about the 1/4" gunk. Give it a try, about $30.00 a gallon at Auto Zone.

Dichloromethane mostly. Pretty nasty stuff to work with, but probably very effective.

Nasty, yes but boy does it work for what it is suppose to.
Water neutralizes it, it's amazing how a fleck of it finds your skin.
