Mini lite and tires

I can't remember where I saw them either. It was in a magazine, so I should be able to find it again, and sold by a racing equipment type outfit. A little too big for me-I guess you'd have to run 40's or even smaller, just doesn't work with one of these cars I'd think.

Actually, you can run 245/45/17s if you don't mind a little protrusion from the wheel well, and those have the same rolling diameter of the original tires and won't cause speedometer errors.

I was in Livingston, TN y'day & saw a tractor trailer full of aluminum wheels going to the aluminum melting place....followed him but he wouldn't let me go through them...bet there was a set of Carroll Shelby SAAB Minilites somewhere in that truck - or several sets that have already been melted!

that's a durn shame!

Aluminum prices are going up & so our future selection of wheels will be getting smaller

Well I ended up buying a used set off of ebay that was in the same town my B being stored at. A friend of mine should be picking them up this sat or sunday. Paid 380 for them not the greatest deal on earth but not to bad and I wont have to pay to have them shipped. With the savings I should be able to buy a new set of tires and still be under the new price of rims which is always a nice thing.

I ordered a set today from Acme, 14X6 12mm offset, $145 each. My rostyle wheels look good but a couple of them where bent.

The best reason for going to aluminum wheels is reducing unsprung weight. The car will accelerate quicker (less rotating mass) and the suspension wont have to work as hard.
Evaluate the weight of the various wheels you are considering, and buy the lightest wheel that suits your budget and has the look you like.
How light is light? My Spridget is running magnesium American Silverstones that are 9' each! Aluminum wheels are heavier, but you should be able to find good wheels under 15' or so.

Lower unsprung weight is certainly one reason for aluminum wheels, but I switched to knockoff ones because I was sick of trying to get my wires properly balanced. The difference is truly amazing - but with the steel insert for the splines, the "minilites" are no lighter than the wires!

I wonder what it would take to machine a lightweigh center for those wheels. Does the center piece bolt in or is it pressed? A nice aluminum / magnesium / titanuim piece would be nice. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Since Tech-Del went bust over 20 years ago, and they were the original Minilites (I had real magnesium ones on a Honda S in 1966) aren't all such wheels replicas today?

superlite-wheels.com has 17" minilite like wheels. They're listed under "Ultralite 3piece" slightly different style...

Out of curiousity I looked these up - nice looking until I saw the price tag /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif I bought all four of my Bullitt wheels WITH good tires for less than one of those!

yeah... I find most wheels over 15" are too expensive for my tastes anyhow... I only wanna step up to a 15x5.5 or 15x6 for my B. So, I don't worry about look at anything bigger nor their prices for that matter.

I like the Mini-Lite knockoffs for the fact I would be able to run my car harder without a nasty tube blowout. No need to wreck the car i assemble. LOL

I did not see the 15" Mini-Lites in Moss for knock-offs. Am I missing something?

Vickie Brit has 15x5.5 "center lock" Mini Lites in their catalogue (2005 Fall Edition)a measely 1345 for a set of 4
