Mini Bashing

I put this info in the Racing Forum too, but some of you Mini-folk may miss it there:

My pal, Bruces's Mini got pretty bashed in the right rear at last weekends race at BeaveRun (PA). An errant VW Golf bashed it during the first practice. The Golf driver felt terrible and was actually crying. They worked out some sort of solution. Another racer brought a Porta-Power and we got most of the body work aways from the left rear wheel so he could race.

A temp fix so that he could race.

Here's a video (crappy resolution) of the qualifying session...there's a lot of Bruce's Mini in this.

OUCH !!!

It's such a shame. You've shared so many nice pictures of that car in the past... it's like loosing a member of the family.

I hope that your friend feels the car is worth straightening out.

Oh yeah! We'll be working on it this week. The roof's not kinked, so it's not as bad as it looks. He has a spare tub with a decent right-rear quarter, so that's half the battle.
He also has another, nice (red) 1275 street Mini so he's a "Mini-dork" through and through.
By the way, he also had a new ('04) MINI until last year, but he traded it for a BMW wagon.

Hey, there's no crying in racing! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

Minis aren't the best cars for crashes, glad no one was injured.

I'm glad your friend has the spare rear clip. I hope it has the rear glass with it. The Mk1 rear glass was narrower than on the Mk2 and later. If you don't have more Mk1 rear glass, I've been told it's not uncommon to "resize" the rear opening to accept the later glass. What you loose is the stamped, recessed lip for the window rubber.

I'm glad the car is worth repairing.

Now you made me cry.
Bruce
