Military [Mis]Communication

One reason the Military Services have trouble operating
jointly is that they don't speak the same language.

For example, if you told Navy personnel to "secure a
building," they would turn off the lights and lock the doors.

The Army would occupy the building so no one could enter.

Marines would assault the building, capture it, and defend it
with suppressive fire and close combat.

The Air Force, on the other hand, would take out a three-
year lease with an option to buy.

true ... to true... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

My friend (ex-submariner), just went back and joined the Navy Reserves. We were talking about an upcoming field op they have and he mentioned he needed to get his "J lot"... I looked at him stupid and when he explained what he was getting, it turned out to be stuff we called "Deuce Gear" in the Marines... heh

30 years ago I remember it as "782" gear or ICE (Individual Combat Equipment)gear. I was a Lieutentant, USNR on a ship carrying 1st Division Marines on a Westpac. Why the "782", I just don't know.

ya... in the 90's it was still officially "782 gear", but we jarheads shortened it to "deuce gear" when speaking about it all the official papers still said 782 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
