Im ordering Tires Today. Any Ideas on the best fit for the Dollar?

Had 145-13

Has 155/80-13 but dont like the high profile.

I'd like to do 165/65-13 but does anyone know if this will clear. Id really like the lower profile more like the stock 145's but with a better price tag. Hopefully someone out there had run these before.

I've had the Sumitomo 175/50-13s on a square fender Midget with no problem.
Years ago, I am quite sure I had 165/70-13s on a similar Sprite.
I would *guess* that they would fit (but it can be tough to predict since the same size tire from different manufacturers can be slightly bigger or smaller).
 
I have 175/70R13 Michelins (in stock at my local BJ's) on Superlite wheels on a Bugeye, which works well after grinding down the track-rod ends. Your results may vary with the SWA's, and you'll need wider rims that the standard ones to use 175/70.
 
Bugeye 155/80/13 seem just fine and look right as well, Goodyear.
 
Hmm that brings something up here.

So whats the tallest, widest tire you can get on the back on a square fender with the original wire wheels (4.0" wide wheel)?

I have 175/70/13s on the orignal wheels on mine and it seems to fit ok.
 
Believe it or not: sears! I even got P155/80R12's for my MG1100 from them!
 
I tried my local Sears and they could not get them from their distributors. What brand were they? When did you get them?
 
They say "Sears GUARDSMAN RESPONSE" on the sidewall.
 
155-80-13's Goodyear, $42. Look and fit just fine.
 
I got 175/70R13's on my wire wheels in a square fender. My only concern in clearance (aside from fitting them onto a 4 inch wide wheel) was the front lip and they clear just fine.
 
The thing that has not been said is how wide a tire you can put on a 4" rim. I'd be afraid of anything over a 165. The way it was explained to me is if you have two wide a tire on a narrow rim the rubber will roll and give you a tread footpath about the size of a bicycle tire. Wider tires need wider rims.
 
I agree with you. A 165 is just over 3/4 of an inch wider than the 145. This could cause some instability on sharp turns.

About 2 years ago, I was able to get the Michelln 145 13 at sears.
 
I just bought 5 Dunlop 155/80/13's from Tire Rack. Only brands I can find in this size were Firestone-locally, Dunlop, Uniroyal(on 4 week backorder) and Kumho.
 
Checked with my local Sears last week. No go. They checked about 4 hours in all directions too. Their manufactures they work with don't make 'em anymore either (Dunlop, Michellen). Decided to go with the coker tires. Supposed to be here on Saturday!!

Any advise from anyone on how to measure my camber now that I've replaced my bushings (upper <u>and</u> lower this time!). I don't feel like messing up 2 more difficult to find tires anytime soon.
