OK.....how much for a 3.90 diff and a pair of disc wheel axles?

Is the 3.9 from 69-72?

I'm not 100% sure on the '69, but I believe all 70's Midgets/Sprites have the 3.90 diff (except the very late Midgets that had 3.73 gears).

It should be stamped into the case at the top near where the brake line attaches. It'll say "10/39" if it is a 3.90.

Hap, how can you tell from the outside? ncbugeye has a 1275 from a 1974 Midget but I suspect the diff is still the original 948.

What is the consensus as to the best ratio for street use?

Well, personally I like the 4.22 for all around use. But, I don't mind high revs as much as some people do.
On a pad on the diff housing, there should be a set of numbers stamped. It's directly above the brake fitting mount hole. If it's stamped 9/38, it's a 4.22. Or should be, anyway. It's possible, but unlikely that someone has changed the ring and pinion to another ratio.
A 3.9 is stamped 10/39. 3.7 is 11/41

Thanks hap.
All rears are from 1275's
