Midget speedometer

While driving along today, the speedometer on my Midget just completely stopped working. For the past few days I'd been hearing a new "whirring" noise under the dash or from the left front of the car. I'm new to MG's, so I don't know whether my cable has broken or whether it's a problem with the speedometer itself. Since it quit all at once, it feels more like a cable problem. Does anyone have experience with this?

Check under your dash just to make sure the speedometer cable just didn't come loose. A quick check and cheapest to do. Cables do snap, replacements aren't that hard to do other then getting down and dirty which is part of owning a mg. Welcome aboard

Disconnect the cable from the speedo.
Drive the car and see if the cable is moving.
Pull out a bit just incase it's just a friction contact making the cable turn.
Most of the time, it's the cable.

I'll have my midget in california within the next couple of months and I will be selling all the instruments (installing a digital display) , giving everyone here first crack. no definite date when I will get it here, but I will keep you all informed. I hope yours gets working though.

Thanks, I disconnected the cable and it's not turning, so I've ordered a replacement. I appreciate the advice.
