Midget Special

just goes to show, it dont take much to be special! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ...zimmmmy

So here is my question about that ad. How come the front bumper looks nothing like my rubber bumper Midget? It's the same year ('76) but it is much smaller. Any thoughts any one?

Not sure on the bumper, but did you read the EPA mpg estimates?
Out of curiousity I called the 800 numbers on the ad to 'find my nearest MG dealer'. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
That would make the minister blush. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Mine is a '76 and interestingly it came with the AM/FM, the rack, the wheels but no stripes. Does this mean I'm half special? I also went out and checked the passenger seat - no luck there either. Though like the car, the accessories are 30 years older too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

Prob all you can handle in any case.

amen

Did you really want the stripes?
a) What would they look like now?
b) You don't need stripes to be special, it's an LBC, they're all special.

That thing in the left seat is specal to someone, she is someones grandmother now.

A Midget Special was a Midget that the dealer or distributor pulled into the garage & added a few things to make it different so he could sell it before BL closed the factory!

The only thing different about them were the gaudy stripes (you could get everything else on any Midget)...the bumpers are the same as all rubber bumper Midgets, & the wheels are just Rostyles with beauty rims!

That just totally spoilt it for me Jack!
I was thinking that if I drove a midget, nice looking lasses would adorn my passenger seat, not grandmas.
Then again, my midget isn't a 'special', that's why.

Thank goodness they don't do that with cars any more /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif
I know you can actually buy those stripes new now. They do nothing for me but hey, my hope is that my LBC will not be especially accurate when it is complete anyway. Then it will truly be special /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif And, for the record, the one I want in the passenger seat was 16 in '76 - and she looks even better now! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There ya go JP. In 76 mine was 32. Oh I remember that, hehe.

Son was 14 at the time. Whoot.

I actually have a set of original black factory strips in a box up in my garage. I think they came in Black and Silver.

If memory serves me correct it was some 25 year comemorative thing that mainly involved the stripping a huge BL marketing expense.

And yes I do remember seeing all the commercials and hoopla. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
