Midget 50th Celebration

Pass. That's too far from Florida.

Maybe Tony and I can have a day of it some place.

Apparently, the venue is not set in stone, but it is going to require someone to make a proposal for another location. And by proposal I mean, with some number of details about hotel, room cost, event locations, etc.

Hmmmm, so the MG Midget will be 50 years old in 2011, maybe we can have something in this neck of the woods too. I've got a Euro Auto festival board meeting in a couple of weeks, I'll bring this up for discussion then.

Also just to let you SE guys know this year at Euro will be a featured British year, Morgan is the feature make, and Mini is the celebrated make. Also Greenvile, will be having new British car show starting this year as well, at the Scotish games at Furman University, the Greenville Scotish games claims to be the biggest in the US, Furman is a great venue, it should be a good show, where the show field at Furman will be is breath taking to say the least.

There is a Scottish games festival in this area that includes a car show. It is great fun to watch the games and listen to the music. It is a break from the ordinary car show. The only bad year was when they parked the cars right by the staging area for the bagpipe bands.

I like the way you think, Hap!

I see no fun in having a major Spridget event in your own back yard.
All you will see are your own neighbors.
Why are so many of you afraid to drive a couple of days in one of your favorite cars?

A couple days works for me, 4+ each way does not.
Shifting major events a bit closer to one side of the country then back to the other is appealing because at least most people would be able to attend at least every other gathering.

I'll be 63 is why!! Too many necessary stops...

Ha, I'll be 72. Come on Tony move it along.

Ha!! One of the beauty's of early spridget's is a small gas tank requiring frequent stops!!! Not sure if it will be small enough though in 2.5 years!
Another day closer to spring!! KA

Unless you tow it.

I thinking more than just a few neighbors, Euro is the largest Eurpoean car gathering in the SE, I thinking of a 100 Spridgets, and the Scotish games is a great backdrop for a car show with lots to do. For me I can't plan a major event 1000 miles away where I have no ties, but I can plan a major event on two shows I am a board member of, thats my train of thought.

Also another thought would be to have something at Carolina Motorsports Park, I have close ties there as well, it could include track driving session, skid pad, as well as a show. I have connection here, so thas' what I'm rolling with, if there's a interest, I can make it happen.

there's an interest

Hap,
That's driveable for me in the Midget and maybe I can talk Tony Barnhill into also coming to the car show. Map quest says a little over 300 miles to Greenville, count me in.
Rik

I can do that. Miss Agatha would love it.

Euro would be my first choice for a venue, the BMW Zentrum is a nice place for a show, plus the Marriott in Spartanburg is a great host hotel, Mary Jane and myslef run the hospitality suite there, free adult beverages and food. There is a nice rally on Sunday, also hopefully we'll have the autocross back on Sunday as plant construction will be over by then. Plus I could do driving tours earlier in the week, say Friday, or Thursday, we can be smack dab in the middle of the Blue Ridge mountians in 30 minutes. I even have in mind who I would love to get as a speaker if I can sell this deal, and I can tell you this much, if I can get him, it would give any decent Spridget guy a serious woody

Euro is the second week of October 2011, at the Greer, SC, at the BMW manufactuer plant, I'd be shooting for Midgets to be the featured or celebrated make, so it would be a European car show, meaning plenty of eye candy, anything from Rolls Royce to Ferrari.

If you want to see more about the past events there, go to

Right now, it nothing more than a thought, we have board meeting Sunday week, and I going to make a hard sales pitch.

That's sounding good Hap, what's the weather usually like at that time of year down there?

Pretty good, normally a high of about 70-75. We normally don't get cooler down here until mid November, then it's nothing by Northern standards.
