Midget 1500 Glove Box

Would anyone know where I may get a replacement glove box for my '77 Midget as it does not appear Moss carries them? The family of mice that had nested in mine kind of ruined the original. Thanks!

I see them on ebay all the time in various conditions. The one thing that I've learned about ebay stuff is unless yours is worse than just old then what you get there isn't usually any better. But it can be an option if it is unavailable via normal routes.

As an alternative you might consider what I did. Having discovered that my glove box was made of paper I decided to improve it. I made a template of the shape of the bottom using the original, and had a piece of sheet aluminum cut to shape. Instead of the side risers, I used two pieces of 1"x1" angle aluminum to make brackets. I mounted them so that the bottom piece rested on the top of the brackets. Sort of a upside down "L". This made it easier to apply the mounting screws on the two sides as they are now under the shelf bottom. Finished the whole thing in black with a piece of thin rubber for the bottom to keep things from sliding around.

It was a little bit of work, but it ended up being a much better product. If you are a purist this would not work.

I have one somewhere-orginal for a 79 Midget. I never put it in because my passangers have KNEES and I see them struggle to get in and out now.......with the glovebox I wasn't sure it was possible. I already took the top completely off-how smart do you think that was, this being Louisiana? I will look & see if I have all the parts-Part is heavy card board but I believe the front is rougher stuff-leather covered or metal. It is brown -I'll look for it-I'm working at opening the Fireworks tent so you may have to remind me,my brains leak out my ears. Randi(I think) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

No Al, I'm not a purist... This will be a daily driver when she's done. I'll keep your tip in mind. But if Randi has an original that he's willing to part with, I'd rather go that route just for sake of time. I'm hoping to have my car put back together at least 90% restored for the San Diego British Car Day in October.

Actually I'm Zack(Howard the Duck's) mom. He is coming to work the tent by the weekend,I think and will have him remind me to pull it out of my filing cabinet& see if all is there!Randi
