Midget [1500] clutch threshold?

It was a good day. Got the new clutch pipe installed, and
drove my latest toy ('78 Midget) for the first time.
The clutch engages when the pedal is about 1" off of the
floor. Seems low to me, but I've never owned a later Midget
before. Is this normal? TIA

No. My '78 grabs about mid-point like most cars.

Look for an elongated hole in the top of the pedal (the hole that the clevis pin goes through to connect to the clutch master cylinder). If you get even a little slop in that hole, you lose a bunch of motion.

Also, be sure you have the system bled properly. They can be tough to bleed.

The plastic hydraulic clutch hose is a piece of junk and it may be causing problems too.
 
I had the same problem in my 79 midgit. Turns out it was the bushing in the throw out bearing yoke thingy on the transmission. Since I replaced that it has been engaging about the half way point. Hope this isn't the case with you, unless you need to pull the tranny for something else.

Number 16 and 18 are the ones I replaced and it made a world of difference.

I have seen that shaft and bushings fall out or come half way out or the bushings crack and break.. I actaully replaced the shaft (17) itself with a long grade 5/16" 8 bolt and lock nut, just had to modify the head on the bench grinder a bit. But dont have to worry it'll slide out again
