Anyone else use it? Strange that it's free from MS. It works very well in my lap top. I figured I'd try it since my Norton's is up. Seems to do a good job of keeping out the trash. PJ

Paul - if you mean MS Security Essentials ... I've been using it for several years, both here at home and on the air museum desktops. Excellent as far as I can tell.

I'm now also using it on my home Windows 8 machine (MS now calls just calls it Defender).

Still very impressed with Win8 after a month.

That's it Tom, so far I really like the program. Haven't tried W8 yet. What's your opinion on why someone should change from W7? Can 8 be tested without disrupting W7? PJ

Paul, I have used Security Essentials for a couple of years now with no problems. My son recommended it as he had used it a while before me. It is much less overhead then McAfee that I had before. I believe you will like it.

Paul - I just updated my Windows 8 topic.

I started using it when Norton ran out. No problems so far on our three machines.
Norton made me run so S-L-O-W-L-Y while MS just loads and goes.
I'm using XP Pro.

I am using that lousy McAffee on my XP and it is so useless that the XP won't even load and I am having to boot into Linux only. I tried to load MS Security but it conflicted with McAffee and slowed things down horribly. I can't uninstall of McAffee (it seems to be locked in or something) so I uninstalled MS Security and now it is so bugged that I can't use windows at all. I HATE McAffee!!!

Thanks JP but when I followed that it wouldn't work. I am not a computer guy but I thought that I could follow instructions- they didn't do anything.

Mcafee and Norton ,

I like AVG

Try downloading Advanced system care, it's free and comes with an uninstaller program that works very well. Most programs can be uninstalled, it's just some are tougher than others. IE can not be uninstalled as it's part of windows, but most others can. Mcafee is not a part of windows, it's an added program. Sounds like you need to clean your system out, not just Mcafee. Actually, you should modernize your computer and upgrade to Vista or even better 7! Nothing wrong with Linux, I have it on one machine, But I don't mix the two on one hard drive. JMHO. PJ

Bill, google "uninstall Macafee" I am sure that you need to uninstall it from the web somehow.

Both the local machine and with web access. It's insidious.

I run XP Pro on my office computer and have never had a problem with any kind of virus. I am not on the Internet.

The only way to keep a computer really safe, also no Disk on Keys, floppies, data transfer of any sort and unplugged ...... Kind of limits the usefulness of the computer though.

That's because you tell them in an email - and they're afraid to open it.
