I've never met the man, nor been to the museum, but know the man by reputation... He is well thought of around the Toronto area, being a former resident up there (he may still be a Canadian citizen). At one point he had a very large microcar collection in the Toronto area, then sold it all off at auction (even made it into an article in one of the British magazines I think), and has once again rebuilt the collection...

Both these museums are high on my want list, unfortunately my available resources are much lower than necessary...

Lane is a great museum...never been to the one in Athens, GA - heard about ti...think he has 12 of those little cars for sale on ebay right now as a $65,000 package.

I am not sure if this is related to the man Sherlock mentioned, and i might have posted about this before but: My office is right next to a really, really rich area of Toronto so on my lunch I like to take a walk through there. I noticed a huge mansion with a few bubble cars and other oddball classics hangin around....So oneday I saw the owner outside working on them and stopped to chat. This guy rents a warehouse and has the filled with mostly bubble cars....when I was at his house he had 3 huge silver cars called 'tatra's'(not sure on spelling) He explained to me that they where some kind of European limo's from the 30's. Definatly worth a few pennies.....Turns out he's also got a soft spot for british cars, but doesn't jave any. He asked to see my collection so I told him I'd give him a call in the summer when their all out of storage.....Seams like a very nice guy, I even saw him driving his kid to school the other day in one of the tatras.

Tatra is an old, old, company and is one of those outfits that, if it's made out of metal, they've made it. They're best known today for the large sedans they made, with rear mounted V8 engines. They're rare, but show up now and then. I'm sure there are some websites devoted to them. You're lucky to have found that guy.

You are probably referring to a guy named Mario - forget the last name - who also has a very large collection of microcars. He doesn't have a website/museum of his own as such like Bruce Weiner down in Georgia, but he is a very friendly guy to chat with regardless.
I was not aware that he even owned any full-size collector cars, that Tatra you mentioned.

We'll know in 5 hours but I think anything under $100K is cheap for this bunch. A lot of people want these cars. Buy the lot, sell all but one (keep the pick of the litter), and you end up with a free car and lots of new friends (and probably enemies).
Or - if you have a 3 car garage, tile the floor, paint the walls & put up posters, add a cheap metal desk, and you've got a 'Schmitt museum posing as a fifties dealership. Stick a few random micros outside with fake - or real - "for sale" signs and you'll be in micro-heaven!

This guys name was John.....but if Mario's daily driver is a Le Car I think I may know him as well.

Truly neat-- I've never seen the Messer's live. Our local microcar group had a show the beginning of May-- forgot the camera, however. They had the usual stuff like mini Coopers, Fiat 600's Isetta's, Morris Minors, Nash metropolitans, bug eye's, etc. but I had never seen a 4 passenger Isetta or a Crosley Super Sport before. They also had a '67 Sprite onto which a bugeye front end was added and they rounded the rear. Nice combo with the retro look, roll up windows and bigger engine.
