Good racing with you. It was a decent start but after 7 laps I DNF'd when the pinion gear broke with lots of oil coming out of the left hub. I don't know whether metal shards took out the seal or a seal leak caused the gear to overheat and fail but the result was the same.
When I removed the pumpkin Monday I found that all the pinion teeth were in the bottom of the axle housing and that the left hub bearings were destroyed by debris. I rebuilt the left hub and installed new seals L and R yesterday and am installing a 4.55 set today for this weekend's VSCCA event at Thunderbolt. Onward and upward....
Perhaps I can chuck the pinion into a large drill press and use it as a grinder!
The weather looks perfect for some really fast laps.
Mike, bummer about the pinion. Are you going to be at SVRA's event at NJMP next fall?
Here are some pictures of the TR harrasing what is the best car/driver Porshe 356 in the country this past September. He was able to stay with him up to they got into lap traffic on lap 4 and caught some terrible breaks in traffic. You can see from the pictures that the top 3 checked out big time. BTW the MGB that is in 3rd is a Prather prepped car and Jesse codrove in the enduro the car that weekend. Very clean and well prepared car. We hadn't seen that car before, so we were caught a bit off guard by how fast it was.
Nial, that white 2.0L Datsun Roadster (ex Bob Sharp car) is in the same league as those 3 cars, and is VERY VERY fast.
It's funny...you start to see some of the same cars at these events. I recognize the red Datsun roadster from somewhere.....not sure.
That electric blue TR7 was at our event. I think that red P1800 too. And maybe the red ALFA GT.
The BRG MGB w/hardtop and wire wheels is Butch OConnell...he lives near me and ran the PVGP with us. I am pretty sure the red MGB roadster w/white top was at our NJMP event too.
Yes, that white Datsun roadster was fast.....but hey, they were ALL fast compared to me!
I am building a new "A" series motor for 2009 (and maybe a new car too). My present engine is bone stock...the next one will be "improved".
