Mice/Fuel Gauge

I'm having trouble with mice taking up residence in my 3000 while I have it parked for the winter. My mechanic told me there is a product available that's effective in keeping them out of the car, but he couldn't remember the name. Anybody have a recommendation?
Also, just got the car back from the mechanic, and the fuel gauge now registers backwards(full when empty). How do I correct? Mechanic is 30miles away.
Thanks for your help.

Perry,
Re: Mice
When storing my cars in horse stable I scattered moth balls around the floor around & under the car, did not have a problem in the 6 years I did so. No odor in the car as the moth balls were on the floor. Other option is to use a very large & hungry cat.
Happy Healeying to you!

Many theories on mice -- some use Irish Spring instead of the moth balls. If AC power is available I have used one of those ultrasonic rodent repellers plugged into the end of an extension cord under the bonnet. Seems to have worked -- anyway, no more rodent bites.

Here is a site on fuel gauges. It is for MGA but I used it to repair & calibrate the gauge on the TR3. Don't know if Healeys have a similar gauge.

Is your gauge 'full when empty' or just 'always full'? The latter could just be a loose wire. That would seem more likely than something suddenly being reversed.

I use snap traps baited with peanut butter to kill the little buggers. Probably should check once in a while to remove the "remains of the day." Many threads have been written on fixing fuel gauges, you might try checking here first. Off hand, check the fuel sending unit (sits on top of the fuel tank, under the trunk material) for a wire under under one of the mounting screws to a good body ground. If you don't have one there make up one. Also check to make sure the wire connecting to the gauge is secure.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif In Switzerland they have a similar problem involving Squirrels as well as mice their technique is as has been stated here use moth balls in and around the car--FWIW---Keoke.
OH ,The fuel guage line is shorted to ground some place along its length. Those little buggars probably ate the insulation off the wire so look for that.

OH! Please don't put the moth balls in the car! or it will smell like grandma's closet forever! Only under and around! Other than that & traps, sitting guard with a varmit rifle is always a good winter sport. Just don't hit the LBC! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Better it smell bad than look bad with no insulation on the wiring---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
