TD wheels, originals were steel bolt-ons, not wires, do you like wires on a TD? To me the wires kinda look out of place, personally, I like the original steel wheels. The TF looks good either way. TheTC and older look perfect with wires. PJ
My original 1960 Triumph TR3-A had the steel bolt-ons. It also had white porta walls (couldn't afford the real thing as we was raising 3 daughters). My current 1959 TR3-A has the original wire wheels which I had restored (4 step process) ending with a clear coat. I always preferred the wires.
I'm currently having a difficult time getting the 1950's "look" that is stuck in my head with the 2.25" wide white walls & wires. Coker said possibly available in November but NOT certain because of coved19.
I can't remember seeing wires on a TD. I liked them on the TC. The look was somewhat unique.
If you like the steels I'd go with them - life is too short! BTW I'm 84 years old.
If you had a TC, wires would be appropriate. The TD and TF both look more correct with steel wheels. JMHO.
I've had MGB's with both, prefer steel to wires for the unsprung weight difference. At autocross runs, the steel ones seemed to help decrease times somewhat, maybe stiffer?
I've been contemplating another fixer upper, one TF is enough, so I'm not sure what it would be. It would have to be one where parts are somewhat available without having to buy the store! I missed a YB two months ago in original condition stored inside for a long time. It even has a history during WWII in the UK. Story of my life. So, an older MG would likely be a candidate, at the right price. Would like to find something within driving distance, I like to put my hands on whatever I buy.
Stock steel wheels are my preference. I removed hubcaps for a hill climb recently and now find that look appealing with my low sheen original paint. On a shiny car, the chrome hubcaps look right.
