Hi Jamie,
The basics here in North America are this:
MG and/or Rover cars have not been sold for years, since 1980/1981 - there was a Rover-based car called the Sterling 825 & 827 sold in the United States (and not Canada) during the late-1980's with very little success - don't know which Rover off hand but looked like a Honda/Acura Integra.
The Range Rover has been sold since 1987, and the Land Rover since, I think, 1994.
As for export rules...
In the States a car not originally sold there has to be 25 years old or older to import it in, then you have to conform to existing laws to road certify it.
For Canada take the same basic rules but the car has to 15 years old or older.
So... eventually at a certain age some of these cars could potentially be brought over and road certified, but not quite yet. Although keep your eyes on Canada, perhaps someone might eventually bring over an MGF or an MG RV8 when they're able to, it will be a while longer for the States.
And as mentioned previously, when embassy workers come over they are able to bring over personal cars that don't fit into the above criteria, but they can't sell the cars and have to take them back home when their posting is done.
The conclusion, we don't get many of the fun new British and European cars over here, as most of them abandoned car sales here years ago
