MGC MGC in car show

Posted a few days ago about entering my CGT in the local car show. I knew I'd be slightly outnumbered as far as the ratio of USA to foreign cars...I'd say it was over 150 US to six others. Two beetles, one rad-rod beetle, a 68 B roadster(for sale) and mine. B owner was a jerk...just there to park, pop a sign in the window and leave...never saw him again. Oh...there also was a kit car, VW powered 52 MG..one I maintain. Anyhow, I was shocked at the response to the C. The wires wheels and the "funny bumps" on the hood were the most popular...I didn't post a for-sale sign, but a few people asked if it was available, and a few others were interested in trading. I have some phone numbers and names, and being it looks like I now have two more Cs...a GT and a roadster.. I don't know quite what to do. All it managed to do was muddle my decision.

Jack,
Went to "Classics on the James" Sunday...there was a CGT, with an AUTOMATIC tranny. ABSOLUTLEY BEAUTIFUL!!! If you weren't so far away, we'd have to talk ;-)

Yeah we might could have to talk too, but I'd rather have a B-GT or a midget.

Anyway - the big thing here is US muscle cars or street rods. This is Daytona, after all. Doesn't matter though. I used to take my B to cruise-ins all the time with tons of "action", even while sitting next to guys with tons of bucks tied up into a custom rod.

American car owners can be as chauvenistic as any when it comes to 'them little Btit cars' so it was particualr fun for me to take my Jensen CV-8 to a mixed American meet one time.

They came over to chortle about mine, figuring it was a Jaguar or some such. Then I told them it was fibreglass construction and popped the hood on the big block Chrysler with sixpack and asked them what top speed was on THEIR cars.... :jester:

Miss Agatha always gets more action than the other cars around reguardless of what they are. Not quite sure why but folks frequently comment on it. Of course it does my old heart good.

Once you get to know the local muscle car and street rod folks they turn out to be 'car guys' just like us (usually). I do a monthly cruise here in Athens at the 'Varsity'...a '50s era car hop hamburger joint. If I'm the only Brit car there I'll find a spot that draws attention to my ride...like below.

That's what I thought until I started going to the big shows and cruise-ins around here. I've never had anyone - not a single person give me an attitude (the only "attitude" I got was from a fellow MGB owner that made a scene about my painted bumpers).

I went to one show and a very muscle-bound, big, tattooed, long bearded, tough looking dude started giving my MGB a close look. He wasn't smiling and he didn't look happy. He came over to me and in a very gruff voice said "this thing yours?". I said "yup". He sat down and said, with almost choking up, "when I was a kid I had one of these, I love MGs..." and on it went.

Strange how it works like that.
