..got the "Oh gee...its soooo rare and we don't know what to do" story.

[/ QUOTE ]

Does this mean you should call your insurance company & tell them your car is rare and to value it higher? When I told my co. what it was they asked me "what value do you want to put on it" I am not sure myself but thinking it worth 10 replace told them "10 grand". When do you know it is enough?

Jack: I'm surprised (well maybe not) that USAA hasn't figured out they b much better off to hire an appraiser (qualified) to evaluate your car. They are wasting money on a rental for you when they could be doing something to get the claim resolved. Most of todays adjusters are trained only on the new drone cars and even then aren't trained all that well.
Anyone thinking of a stated value policy may want to invest in a professional appraisal as well. Depending on the insurer they may demand an appraisal.
Good luck! Roy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

When the appraiser did show(a week after the accident) I had the car up and ready, parts lists for the available parts and all the info. I could think of. He crawled around and basically blew me off...said he doubted the ins. comp. would cover tires..wheels..tubes etc. Anyhow...yesterday I called the guy I talked to last week who PROMISED to get back wih me asap...what a suprise...he's on a two week vacation. Needless to say I blew. Finally got hold of a higher level person, a lady who happens to own a 69 XKE roadster. She says the ball is now rolling and Mr. Vacations boss is involved. She figures I'll keep my C..and get a settlement to buy one of the two CGTs I've found. I hope quickly as I have a trip to NY in July.

All right, keep us posted. The saga continues.

wow... this really is turning into a horror story from the grave! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

FINALLY...USAA has agreed to total the car but let me buy it back with a clean title..Monday they will call me with the figures and see if we can end this nightmare. It will have been over five weeks. I'm getting the fidgets from being MGless.

Me too Jack. Glad youre finally getting at least something out of the whole ordeal.

SETTLED. Got the call from insurance company yesterday before noon. Keep the CGT with a clean title...and the amount settled on was agreeable. Today I order the new front parts..bumper,grille, valance and other bits. Am bebating on chrome wires, mine are painted. Have a lead on a steering rack...but an old pal has a damaged C roadster that may never be fixed..if so I'll pull and check his rack and see. I limped the car home a few nites ago, today or tomorrow I'll take it by the frame shop and see if it got tweaked. While at my house...I've had a few people stop and ask if its for sale, if they only knew.

Excellent news. Glad you have a project. hehe
