MGB MGB Wheels

I looked at rust bucket basket gase mgb gt today. Now while there is nothing unusual in the description I just gave, the unusual part was the wheels on the car. It sported alloy wheels that looked like the "fuchs" that you see on Old porsche 914's. Is this possible. I'm giving some serious thought to buying this rust bucket just for the wheels. Has anyone ever seen an mgb with this type of wheel? By the way does anybody have any info on the various types of wheels that will fit the mgb? Thanks John /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Do you have a photo - they're some type aftermarket that the PO installed on them

Yes photos would be Way more revealing, but if you've got some coke-bottle mags there in good condition (alloy 4 spoke wheels by american racing - each spoke sortof shaped like a classic coke bottle).... They may actually be worth more than the car - if the car is not rebuildable.

I found a picture of the wheels on ebay. It is ebay item number 290007170193 and they call them american racing Daisy wheels. If anyone knows how maybe they can drag over a picture. Would some of you guys take a look and let me know what you think? The wheels on the car have no curb rash. They just need cleaning and center caps.

they seem to be too wide to use on a B. I have to wonder if 10x15 is right and if the writer mean they're 15x10 instead... 10x15 would be a 10" rim that's 15" wide. They do sort of seem wider than tall. So, maybe they really are 10" rims that are 15" wide. Either way, they're WAY too wide for an MGB. You'd have to 'tub' the rear out re-route the exhaust, and re-locate the fuel cell to get those rims + tires to fit. In addition, you'd also have to change the bolt pattern to match up to that 5 lug pattern.

hmmm... I just reread the rest of the thread. It IS possible to have rims that LOOK LIKE those that would fit a B in stock trim, just not THOSE rims. There are a lot of rims that can fit on a B. You just need the proper width and back spacing. I believe the maximum recommended width for an unmodified suspension is 6" wide, with a backspace of +22mm (+7/8"). The ideal size is something like 14" diameter, 5.5" wide, and +22mm (+7/8") backspacing. I ~think~ the B's lug pattern is 4x4.5" or is it 4x4"? Maybe someone can help with that?

The wheels are currently mounted on the clapped out old GT but there seems to be plenty of tire clearance. I never thought to get the size of the tires so I don't know if they are 14 or 15 inch. I like the look of them because they are different and not rostyle, wire, or minilite. Can I hear a few other opinions?

The wheels on ebay could be the same as yours but not the same size...that was a popular style back 'in the day'...it came in 13" through 15" if I recall correctly...I've seen a few Midgets with them....but, I can almost guarantee your GT doesn't have 10" wide wheels under it....& they're probably 14" in diameter.

those sorta remind me of 'Craigers' or however you spell that. Only exception is most Craigers I've seen ... actually all the ones I can remember ... were chrome. Those would probably look nice on a B.

Personally, I'm keeping my eyes out for a set of those fancy schmancy Saab Shelby rims that Tony has on his racer. Very light weight wheels. However, I don't think they'll fit your criteria because they have a mini-lite style to them.

The mechanic that did my clutch job had a set of double spoke 5 stars on his B. I wanna say they were American Racing Wheels, but I'm not 100% sure on the brand. They looked pretty nice on his MGB LE.

American Racing Libre wheels... like this?

those are kinda cool... but not what I saw on the mechanics' car. his were double spoked stilleto shaped 5-stars...

Really though, it shouldn't be that difficult to find wheels. All ya gotta do is make sure you get the right bolt pattern, backspacing/off set, rim width and diameter.

American Racing Libre wheels. Thats exactly what the car had on it. I had never seen those before. I kind of like the look just because its different.

They are very rare and may well be worth more than the car. I've seen good sets sell for over $500 on eBay.

Popular on Datsun's - the datsun ones will fit MGB... Check around - they are very findable, and can be cleaned up nicely - I like them with the spokes painted a light charcoal, and the rim silver. - polished is nice too. A good used set is usually about $500 or so when you find them though.

I can pick up the car with the wheels on it and a nice set of SU HIF4's for under $300. My plan is to use the wheels on a 1977 MGB I am in the processing of acquiring. I also want to use the carbs along with a Peco header and exhaust. I was also thinking about a Kent cam in a street grind.

I like the five spoke style over the AR Libre's. Very Fuch looking, very cool. Nice find.

Not a bad deal, IMHO - you can part her out to recoup your investment.

Thought I would open this thread up again. I was looking at the MGB Driver Sept/Oct 2006 issue From the North American MGB Register. Back page shows 20 wheels or so, and just didnt realize so many wheels could/would fit on a B. I like the bottom right wheel /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Does anyone have any knowlege on that particular one, and how does it look in person.
I guess the reason I ask is, I didnt know their were so many that fit. It seems everybody likes to put the mini lites on their cars? Kind of wondering why? Not that they look bad, but everybody and their mother has them. Also on the bottom row, the 2nd wheel to the left looks good too. Oh wait a minute, I just spotted another one I like, diagonal to both of the other two I liked.(Chrome). So like I have said before, old posts never die, just get longer.

I have that same issue of MG Driver, I want the black Panasports with the polished outer lip, just like the wheels all of those tuner punks are running. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I saw a fellow yesterday that had those Libre wheels on a blue rubber bumper B, I would sure like to find myself a set...
