The boot of my 76 B has a black rubbery coating on the bed and a couple inches up the sides over the red paint. Did the factory send them out this way or was this added?

That seams to be a common thing with DPO's......it's usually a cheap rubberized tar or something....I've removed it with karosene(Varsol)....Got one more to do this summer.
