MGB MGB trunk coating

The boot of my 76 B has a black rubbery coating on the bed and a couple inches up the sides over the red paint. Did the factory send them out this way or was this added?

Some PO likely sprayed rubberized undercoating in there. They came painted the same color as the car, no "liner."
 
That seams to be a common thing with DPO's......it's usually a cheap rubberized tar or something....I've removed it with karosene(Varsol)....Got one more to do this summer.
