MGB MGB Transmission Oil -- with Tasty Metal Shavings

Figured it was about time I got around to changing the transmission oil in the MBG I purchased last year. I know...why did you wait so long? My bad...but it looked clean when I've checked the level since I purchased the car, so I thought, "what's the rush?"

Anyway, I was changing the motor oil today and decided to drain and fill the tranny as well while I was under there.

When I pulled the plug and drained the tranny, I fould some metal "shavings," mostly collected in the concave inside of the drain plug. Not much in the oil itself. See the photo linked to below:

Should I be alarmed? I have no idea how long it's been since the oil's been changed prior.

Best regards,
Marty

I just drained mine and I found similar things including a little piece of gear. Found them in the same place you did. I too would like to know the answer.

Most likely bits of the sycros. Havent seen much debris in my 75 but the cup on drain plug of the 73's was filled up with metal but the oil was also clear. Shifts ok so I'm not going to worry about it yet.
