MGB MGB steering?

I know how the steering feels on a Sprite/Midget but right now I am playing with a friend's MGB and the steering is HORRIBLY heavy (hard to turn). Is is supposed to be light like a Spridget or really heavy? I am betting that the rack hasn't had any lube in the past 30 years and this may be the answer-
With this in mind, is the MGB rack also lubed with cornhead oil?

It's supposed to run 90W gear oil.

But, just like the Spridget, lots of folks have used grease.

My MGB (with 90W oil in the rack), normal tires and big diameter, banjo-type steering wheel is a good deal heavier to turn than either of my Spridgets (and both of them have undersize steering wheels).

I'm not sure I'd say the MGB is stiff, but it's definitely a notch up effortwise compared to the little cars.
It should get lighter when moving and steering should self-center when driving on the road. If it doesn't, then there could be problems.

It is just as you describe so it is probably just fine but I am used to the Spridget so it seemed wrong. I may put some oil in to check but it is probably fine.

Thanks Doc but this car belongs to a friend who inherited it from her father and just wants for it to be a good running car that she can drive for fun.
It is about the most perfect '64 B that I have ever seen! Been in her family since about 1970 and been garaged in SoCal all of its life. I changed the clutch back in 1978 and know most of its history. She just wants for it to be fun.

That castor correction kit describes the steering pretty well- I never knew that B's were so heavy to steer!
 
Your MGA is about the same, IIRC!! :jester:
 
The A hasn't run since I've owned it- not much to compare yet but I'll bet that you are right.
