I got what was described as a good used all synch tranny for my MGB. I am replacing the front and rear seals and tried to source them locally, I picked one up at NAPA, which was wrong, then they looked up the part and specs and they were closer. like a 1 9/16" inside diameter and a 3" outside diameter, but what I have on my car is most definitely 1 9/16" I.D. and 3" O.D.

Do I have a different transmission or seal, or do they have the wrong specs, anybody got a loose MGB all synch tranny handy that they can measure.

Thanks, Greg

Well I pulled to old tranny, the seal looks different, and in fact the seal on the old tranny might match what they showed me at NAPA. The box I am putting in had a dipstick as well, mine just has a plug to fill the box.

Greg, The differences in the trans is one is from a rubber bumper car the other is from a chrome car. The side fill has 1000 turns per mile speedo and the top fill is 1280 TPM. Bob

I got it in, works well, you are right, speedo gear is different, the car goes REALLY FAST now, what is the quick easy fix, find a speedo from an early 70s B?

Greg, a 68 to 74 speerdo will be correct. Look at the bottom right side of the speedo on the face and you will see a 1000 and it should be a 1280 for a dipstick trans. Now if you are running a late car(77 and up) the early speedo will not work and you will need to get your original recalibrated. Bob

I am running a late car, I know from 67 to 68 or thereabouts they went to smaller guages, but stayed the same size, why does the early guage not work on the later car (1980) now with dipstick transmission?

They look VERY different and install completely different. The late cars gauges turn and come out whereas the early stuff has nuts and brackets from behind to hold them in. The cable end at the speedo is also a different thread. Bob
