Wow, i just found my new job, building cars for movies...what a piece of crap!

It only has to look right for the camra angle, anything else is a waste of money. I bet some get cleaned up on only one side.

That said, long ago in Hawaii I had a commander who rented his Royles for the moveie about Pearl Harbor and even drove it in the flick. Not that he got a lot but sure looked nice.

Movie cars are not built for enthusiasts. They are just props, no different than a fake tree. They only have to look right through the lens and perform whatever is required of them. In this case, the car only needs to move under its own power so performing a professional restoration would be an enormous waste of the production company's funds. The only time a really nice car is used is if they can't find a crappy one, or if they need to really feature the car inside and out.

Yup, what Steve said. All kinds of vehicles too. The flying version (not a model) of "Blue Thunder" was a regular helicopter with the armor and body made of painted plywood. From 20-30ft away it didn't look too bad, but up close it sure did. On camera it looked real. Go figure.

The other interesting part of film and photography is the idea that 'if its not in frame, it doesn't exist'. Sort of a quantam physics idea. It's always interesting to watch someones reaction the first time they go to a photo shoot or see a film set. Just how much stuff can sometimes be just outside of the frame when what is in the frame gives no clue to it can really suprise the newbies.

Well it still looks intact....so I guess they never did wreck it?

They could have wrecked it, but only simulated. I got a call for the show "Monk" where they were going to use my MG. Their plan was to wreck the car in the scene. To accomplish this, I offered them an old fender which they could bash up and then put on the car, or possibly just lay over the old one with some creative artistic touches. Our schedules didn't match so they went with a Morgan and used some sort of plaster or other material to make the car look smashed up.

My parents saw the accursed film. From their reports, yes, it was indeed in an accident, but was repaired.

Jack - I was stationed at Ford Island in '78 - '79 when they filmed one of the Pearl Harbor movies there. I had duty and nobody would switch with me, but a bunch of my shipmates (I was Navy then...) got to wear their whites and be extras. Kinda cool, even vicariously.

Commander also had a 1917 Roler and we use to go to the golf course in it on Wed, half days back then on Wed. It was kind of a buckboard style.

Some "authorities" have said the Norbit is so bad that it will hurt Eddie Murphy's chances for a Oscar for his supporting role in Dreamgirls...a movie worth seeing.

If I wanted to watch an MGB get DCO'ed, I can do it in the privacy of my own garage! Anyone remember this little gem?

Yeah Lawguy, but after grossing $33,740,000.00 and topping all others I don't think he will get too up set over loosing a small statue to put on the mantle.---Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Hey - somebody actually bid on it! "Reserve not met" though.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Although I do like purple, purple flake with gold trim is not my bag baby!

Anyone here read Neil Peart's "Traveling Music?" Neal wrote that his first car was an MGB, painted metallic purple.
