MGB "Heritage" hood

Someone stopped by my shop today and offered me what is supposed to be a British Motor Heritage replacement hood for an MGB. My (hopefully) simple question is, how can you positively identify a Heritage produced hood, from the "cheaper" repros? He can provide no paperwork, and I surely don't want to overpay.

here's a copy-âste statement from British Motors Heritage web site.
All Heritage product is built to the same exacting standards as parts used on the original manufacturer's production lines. All product is identified by the British Motor Heritage Approved part label and this is your assurance of originality and quality.

Hoods are not that expensive. Check the price with the web sites of Moss Motors or Victoria British of TRF british parts (their MG Glove box companion).
Let us know you it turned out. I'm a bit suspect with people that have hoods to spare without any originating info...certainly did not find this on the garbage pile...

Most larger parts from BMH have a label attached (see photo of footwell panel), however, that is not necessarily true for smaller or odd shaped parts where label placement would be difficult (see "A" arm photo).

I found that the quality of most of the BMH parts is superior...original in most respects. Look for tight flange bends and beads rolled where they belong. BTW...I have used a number of "Steelcraft" products and they are of decent quality as well.

I bought a Heritage fender set and hood from Special Interest Car Parts (RIP) years ago. The panels all had small metal tags with an HZAnnnn prefix on them. They should be black cathodic primer. They also had small "hologram" stickers on them.

The hood fit perfectly once adjusted with the fenders.

EDIT: that is one gorgeous Spridget control arm; I shudder to think what that thing cost :smile:

Both of the BMWs eat control arm bushings. They need replacing about every 2 years. Dealer wants about $600 for the job. I bought a tool for $24. I can do it in an hour per side.

Life is good.
