MGB-GT MGB GT vs. Chevy Avalanch

I'm sorry to have brought back those memories. I can't imagine how that must have felt. [/QUOTE]

That's OK, it was good to remember. Also to put the 2 and 2 together finally about what most likely happened to the car while I was out of town. I know anyone could have taken it, but the guy who hit me had the most motive and of course the opportunity.

Definitely never assume you are OK.

I hope it works out well for you with the insurance and repairs.

The adjuster is coming tomorrow evening. She says that she and her husband brought an MGB across the pond in '70 and sold it few years later so at least she knows what it is.

She asked me if I thought it could be fixed and I told her yes. I told her about the Moss catalog and my pile of receipts and she was attentive. So far, so good but we have along way to go.

We'll see what she says tomorrow and then I can look for corroboration from another shop or two.

I'm also going to poke around for parts locally to avoid shipping cost but I'll definately keep the offers of good parts in mind - thanks!

I wouldn't - you're not paying for it & it won't raise your rates...hand her the catalog & let her order everything new! Don't even tell her about used parts...&, if she hands you a check, then you can go the other route as you work with your body shop.

The appraiser was very nice and is a CAR PERSON (has a Model-A with her husband).

She spotted damage I had not seen and went through the Moss catalog with me and wrote down prices.

We discussed the implications of a total loss but agreed that we are only collecting cost data right now.

At her request, I just sent her a total accounting (from receipts) of what I've spent on the car. (EXCEL is EXCELlent!)

I also learned that, in California, if it is totaled, a SALVAGE title must be issued. https://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d05/vc11515.htm

I'd still like to get quotes from capable body shops in the area. The only one I know is Dave Wellwood out in Ventura so I'll give him a call.

If the costs don't line up and I think about scrapping the body, do I get disowned by the LBC community? (Figured I'd better ask while I don't have to make a decision!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

I'll pass on whatever else I learn!

Ve haf vays of makin' dat problem disappear (in his finest German criminal accent)....

Finalize everything & if you want to buy it back from the insurance company & restore it, we'll fix that little issue!

Okay...

We have an update here!

The damage was more than the first pictures showed. The whole inside structure of the body is tweaked. I hate to scrap it but there are a lot of better BGT shells out there for a lot less than it would take to straighten this one.

As of today, my insurance company is fronting the payout as the other driver is liable. We agreed to an amount equal to the value of my receipt pile (great reason to keep EVERY receipt)less my $100 deductable (refundable when they collect from the other ins. co.) and $500 for the salvage value of the wrecked car. (I wanted it for the almost new OD trans, aluminum head and more.)

I'm very happy with the payout and now I have a pile of good parts to use, sell or trade as opportunities arise.

Accidents are never good but I was lucky in so many ways.

Thanks for all the guidance and support!

Glad to hear it worked out well for you Adam...spend some time stripping everything you can off the old tub before crushing it...you never know what your next tub might need.

You betcha, Tony! I think I'll keep it together until I or a friend have need for major parts. That way I can show someone that it runs and I don't fill the garage w/ parts. I can also move it around.

The other thing I gotta do is come up with a new avatar.
