The head gasket went on the GT in July.
I'm thinking about starting to tear it down, but
would like some suggestions on what to do/not do,
& maybe suggestions on what parts to use when
putting it back together.
Thanks in advance.

Payen gaskets have been recommended to me on a number of occasions, that's what I'd use. Good time to check the lifters and pushrods for wear while you're in there.

Depending on your budget I'd be tempted to replace the head studs as well.

By: "tear it down," Doug, do you mean just the head gasket R&R or the whole engine?

If just the head, as mgbtf suggested, the Payen head set is about all you'll need. Check the block and head for any warpage/unevenness.

Keep all pushrods/lifters in order of removal, so they go back in their original places. I just use masking tape to make "tags" for numbering pushrods and egg cartons for lifters, valves and springs, etc.

I would likely also hand lap the valve seats while it's apart. Just one of those "might-as-well" things.
